Recently the Kiddos of the FLC got a fall break from school. We had not had many chances to get away in the last 8 months. So we decided to make a quick trip to Kemah TX and visited the Kemah Boardwalk along with staying at the Kemah Boardwalk Inn.

If you live along the Louisiana Texas Gulf Coast, Kemah TX is a great option for overnight or day trips. Kemah Tx is a cool marine town with lots to offer. Kemah TX is home to Kemah Boardwalk. The Kemah Boardwalk is a great place for families. The Kemah Boardwalk has rides, games, and food.

The Kemah Boardwalk Inn is located at the Kemah Boardwalk. The Kemah Boardwalk Inn is a great option when visiting Kemah TX. The convenience due to the Kemah Boardwalk Inn being on site is a blessing for big families. But it comes at a cost.

Here are our best practices to save money when visiting the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah TX

1. Bring an Ice Chest

Bringing an ice chest is our number one way to keep the cost down when visiting the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah TX. An ice chest can save you hundreds of dollars. The average drink at the boardwalk is 4 to 5 dollars. We stopped to get slushies for the kids and 2 beers.

Our total bill was $68. Even though that was a treat for us we still brought the ice chest and the rest of the drinks outside of dinner or breakfast were from the ice chest.

Adding dry ice to a yeti type cooler can save even more money. By placing the dry ice in the bottom of the cooler you can bring items to make lunch, such as sandwiches or items that can be put in a microwave. The average ticket price per person to eat lunch at one of the Kemah Boardwalk themed restaurants is 18 to 25 dollars. Just one lunch of 8 to 10 people with tax and tips can cost over $200.

As simple as it seems an ice chest equipped correctly can save hundreds of dollars on lunch and drinks.

2. Bring Your Own Dinner

I have already laid out how using an ice chest can save you money. However, dinner is where they really get your pocket book. I nice dinner at one of the Kemah Boardwalk Inn themed restaurants can run 25 to 35 per person on average. Dinner for 10 at a Kemah Boardwalk property can cost $300 or more after tax and tips.

By cooking at home and bringing at least one night of meals can save a lot of cash on your next getaway. Be sure to store you meals in microwave safe contains so you can heat them in the hotel.

When It comes to kids they never follow through on their plans. What we have experienced is some kids are ready to ride and other need to warm up to the rides. When we arrived we had two in our crew admit that they where not riding. However, once the fun started they could not stop. If I had bought the tickets instead of the bands I would have spent way more money. The Band allowed them to ride way beyond what they wanted to ride.

I bring this up because we debated for awhile on what to do. The band turned out to be the best option as compared to the tickets. Note if you have a small child maybe 2 or 3 and younger. The tickets may work better. I say this because there are only about 3 rides that a child this age can ride.

4. Decide Convenience or economy (off site or on site)

When visiting Kemah Boardwalk the next big money saving tip outside of the ice chest idea is decide to stay on or offsite. The Kemah Boardwalk Inn is on site. When staying at the Kemah Boardwalk Inn there is no reason for you to get back in your car. You are just a double glass door away from all the activities and food.

For convenience you do pay a price. A room with double beds can cost $250 or more depending on times and seasons. You can stay offsite for less. If you are like us and need more than one room that is where it gets costly.

Staying offsite you can get rooms as low as $49 per night depending on the time and season. The negative is you have to get back into your car, find parking, and fight traffic. During weekends and peak times traffic can be thick.

5. Visit Monday to Thursday

Our last tip to save is to avoid the weekend and holidays. Visiting Kemah Boardwalk Monday thru Thursday will almost give you free reign of the complex. We were there on Columbus Day and the day after. Monday was not too busy and Tuesday was a ghost town. There is a negative to visiting earlier in the week. They will not have as many employees on staff. This leads to certain rides and shops only opening for certain times.
