We want to tell you about the most disaster proof business we know. In 2020 the world came to a sudden stop. A global pandemic forced all businesses large and small to stall. We were terrified. Unsure of the future we stuck to what we knew. Ice and Syrup.

Before the pandemic, business was bustling. The calendar was booked. Times were exciting. Yes, times were exciting. Our business was growing, and we were discussing expansion. Then from the east came Covid-19. The entire world was flipped upside down. All our events and jobs were canceled. This lasted for a few months.

Our business was eventually labeled essential. We had to make many costly adjustments to our day to day operations. But, we stayed opened and helped people find joy in a very uncertain and scary time. Just when we thought the skies were clearing. A storm came rolling in. Only after a few months of getting the business back rockin and rollin, Hurricane Laura came knocking.

Hurricane Laura was the most powerful hurricane to ever hit Louisiana. She barreled in as a Category 5 having no mercy on Louisiana’s southwestern gulf coast. The devastation was mind blowing. Building imploded, homes flooded, roofs blew away. And hundreds of trees uprooted. We lived without power for 25 days. We even washed our clothes in an ice chest. We spent many days cleaning up storm damage and helping neighbors all while sleeping via candlelight. Cell service was hit or miss.

I remember having to drive to Walmart just to get enough service so I could call to let loved ones know we were ok. Just when we thought all was clear. The clouds started to gather again. Not 1 week after getting electricity, tv, and cell service to a normal level. We learn of Hurricane Delta. Hurricane Delta took the same path as Hurricane Laura just 1 month later. She finished off what Laura left behind. We spent another 7 days in the dark without electricity. We broke out the ice chest washing machine one more time. By now everyone's morals were broken.

It was so hot. Living without electricity for 40 days and 40 nights is not fun in the Louisiana summer heat. We had also lost our employees due to the hurricanes. Many of them had to evacuate. Through all of the disaster we discovered just how nimble, and disaster proof our business is. We laced up our boots and went to work. We delivered our products and services to the beatin and batter community. People lit up with joy and excitement when they saw us coming. We broke the monotony for cutting trees, hauling debris, patching roofs, and building fences.

Even as we are making this video our community has still not fully recovered. Buildings still lay in ruins. People are still homeless. And many businesses did not survive. Our Tikiz Shaved Ice and Ice Cream business is the most disaster proof small business we know of. It survived the pandemic, two massive hurricanes, and a second wave of the pandemic.

Because Tikiz is mobile we moved easily among the rules of the pandemic, and the debris of the hurricanes. We were able to navigate the storms of 2020.
