Surviving the Morning Rush with Lots of Kids: A Mom's Guide to Starting Your Day Right
Raising kids is never an easy feat, let alone getting them up and ready for school on time. But what do you do when you have multiple children, all at different ages and with varying schedules? You adopt a routine that works for you and your family, of course! In this blog, I am going to share my morning routine that always gets us out the door on time, and with minimal chaos.
The first thing in the morning, I need caffeine to get going, and so the coffee goes on. I take a moment to center myself by drinking a cup of coffee while catching up with the news, emails, or social media updates. As soon as I finish my coffee, it's time to go into mom-mode.
Getting multiple kids out of bed is not an easy task, and so, I've learned to become creative. The night before I had them get their uniform out. Once they have brushed their teeth and combed their hair it's time to get dressed, and this is where the race begins. I set a timer, and we try to outdo each other to get ready the fastest.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but with the rush of a busy morning, the meal choice needs to be quick and easy to prepare. My go-to breakfast options are things like cereal, waffles, rolls - it's nutritious, easy to make and appeals to everyone. While they are eating, the kids also pack their own lunches and put their backpacks together by the door. By involving them, it saves me time, and they learn valuable skills in the process.
Once we are done with breakfast, it's time to head out the door. I have each child double-check that they have everything they need, and off we go. In the car, we talk about positive things that they can do that day to make someone else day much brighter. Give a fellow student or teacher a compliment, help someone that is struggling, or just be a friend to someone that is not having the best day.
In conclusion, having a morning routine makes a significant difference in the day-to-day lives of moms with multiple kids. Having a set pattern and sticking to it helps everything run smoothly, and it puts the mind at ease knowing everything is under control. Of course, there will be days when things don't go according to plan, but having a routine in place allows you to adjust quickly, knowing what steps to take. So, moms with multiple children, take a deep breath and know there is a way to conquer the morning rush. Adopt a routine that best suits your family's needs, and soon you'll find the mornings to be more enjoyable and stress-free.
