Our Family Cookbook Is Now a Free App: Pick a Dish, Get the Groceries, Order for Pickup

For years, our family’s recipes lived in a little black box and in a worn cookbook called “My Secret Recipes” — recipes handed down from French, Spanish, and Acadian mothers, some of them over a hundred years old. Seafood casserole at Thanksgiving. Wild duck jambalaya at the camp. Jambalaya for 250 people when the whole community shows up.

We have put 69 of those recipes into a free app, and we made it for one person: a busy mom standing in her kitchen at 5 o’clock asking, “What am I going to cook tonight?”

Here’s how it works

  1. Pick a dish. Browse by chapter — Gumbos & Stews, Jambalayas, Crockpot Louisiana, Seafood, From the Camp, and more — or search for what you’re craving.
  2. Tap “Add groceries.” The app builds your grocery list for you, grouped by store section.
  3. Check off what you already have. No more buying a third bottle of Tony’s because you couldn’t remember.
  4. Pick your store — Walmart, Instacart, or Sam’s Club — enter your ZIP, and the app hands you your finished list in that store so you can place your pickup order.

Built for a real family kitchen

  • Plan My Week: Pick the week’s dinners once, and the app merges them into one grocery list and one pickup order. One trip, not three.
  • Feeding a crowd — or not: These recipes were written for big families. One slider rescales any dish — feeding 4 tonight, feeding 12 on Sunday — ingredients and grocery amounts adjust automatically.
  • What can I make with what I have? Tell the app what’s in your pantry and it shows you what you can cook without a store run.
  • Cook Mode: Big step-by-step text, steps read out loud, built-in timers — for when your hands are covered in roux.
  • Send the list: One tap texts the grocery list to your husband or one of the kids. You build it, they pick it up.

It’s free

The app is completely free — all 69 recipes, all the features. It is supported by ads and by grocery links that may earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you, which is what lets us give it away.

From our family’s little black box to your kitchen — we hope it makes your 5 o’clock a whole lot easier.
