From Despising Coffee to Loving It: My Journey with the Morning Cup of Joe

Ah, the dreaded coffee. I remember a time when I couldn't even tolerate the smell of it, let alone drink it. But as I got older and ventured into motherhood with eight kids, I found myself needing that caffeine fix to survive. However, my coffee was more sugar and cream than actual coffee. It wasn't until later that I started truly appreciating the taste and ritual of a morning cup of joe. So, if you're a non-coffee drinker or someone who hasn't quite warmed up to the idea yet, let me tell you my story.

Growing up, I never understood why adults would willingly subject themselves to such a bitter beverage. The smell and taste were completely unappetizing to me. But as I started having my own children, my sleepless nights coincided with my newfound love for sugary and creamy concoctions that included a hint of coffee flavor.

A few years of this go by, and I slowly start to realize that maybe coffee isn't so bad after all. Maybe there's a reason why so many people drink it and even enjoy it. So, I decided to start experimenting with actual coffee instead of just the sugary stuff. I started off with a bit of cream and sugar, but gradually I started taking out the sugar and replacing the cream with milk.

It wasn't a smooth transition. There were days where I just couldn't handle the taste and went back to my usual sugary blend. But, I kept at it. Over time, my taste buds started to adjust, and the bitterness became less overwhelming. I even started to appreciate the different types of coffee and the ways it could be prepared.

But, it wasn't just the taste that drew me in. It was the ritual of making a cup of coffee in the morning and using that time to mentally prepare for the day ahead. The warmth and aroma of brewing coffee became comforting to me, almost like a daily routine to start my day off on the right foot.

Now, I can proudly say that I am a coffee drinker. It's not something I need to function, but it's something I’ve grown to enjoy and appreciate. I’ve even replaced some of my sugary snacks with a cup of coffee to give me that boost of energy.

Conclusion

From despising coffee to loving it, my journey has been a long one, but I’ve learned to appreciate the taste, ritual, and energy it provides. So, if you’re not a fan of coffee or hesitant to try it, give it a chance. You may be surprised at how your taste buds can adjust and how it could become a valuable addition to your routine. And for those coffee lovers, cheers to a good cup of coffee every morning!
